Recently taken in part exchange this original, ever attractive and different, British built Allis ED40 The 23C 4 cylinder diesel starts without fail from cold or hot.

These engines benefit from heater plugs for each cylinder, and in my experience are always reliable starters as long as the heater plugs are working. Even on these cold mornings this tractor starts with 40 secs of heat, and settles almost instantly to a lovely smooth tick over. Exhaust is very clean, no smoke other than a diesel puff when you open it up, which clears instantly. once warm it does breathe a bit, but these engines are a little prone to that, and having spent a bit of time on wood processor, I should think it would benefit from a work out.

All gears select fine in both high and low ranges, the clutch bite is good. Brakes are good and pull up straight.

Linkage operates and PTO all functioning.

Front tyres are good, rears hold air but are ancient and cracked

I’m fairly sure the paintwork, bar the yellow front wheel is all original! Tin work all present, has seen a bit of action, but largely straight. Rear wings do have a bit of rot where they join the mounting plate, but the tops are still in good order.

Overall, a very nice little tractor with nice ageing. Something a bit different the normal. Nice high driving position with long slim line bonnet.

The Norfolk registration has expired, so you’d need to do some homework, or get an age related one applied for.
