1961 BMC Nuffield 4/60 460

The 3.8 BMC engine starts without hesitation from hot or cold, there is no pre heat , just a start switch on the fuel pump. The engine is very sweet, runs smoothly from the outset. Very clean running and no breathing

The clutch is smooth and the bite point feels good, the 5 speeds select without issue.

The foot brakes are very good and progressive – unusually so, the hand brake works well

the linkage lifts and lowers via the lift lever and is responsive to the lever operation

The hand clutch for the PTO is not working which means in theory you cannot engage the PTO lever, however, that said if you put the selector lever on the rear in the mid position (hydraulics) you can slide it back to engage the PTO without any issues. I’m not saying this is correct procedure, but it does work, and you can just move the lever to operate on and off.

There is a bit of an oil leak from the steering box (may be over full) and another from the fuel bowl so new seal required.

Very fresh set of tyres that are like new and look great (BKT on the rear)

Bodywork very pretty, not prize winning but bright and glossy. the tinwork is all very straight and rot free, if I’m being critical the paint on the engine is a little deteriorated and there is a little staining/discolouration from the diesel weep on the chassis rail. the paint on the wheels has also lost a bit of its sparkle. But overall a sharp looking tractor ready for the show field, road runs or just to enjoy.
