A very unusual find – Bedford TK KG 1630 16 and 1/4 tonne big wheel variant. This is a Chassis cab, ready for whatever you want to fit.

This Classic truck was supplied brand new to the Isle of wight fire service as a water tanker, in 2007 it passed to a construction/aggregate company who used it as an onsite bowser – the clock shows just 15800 miles, which I believe to be true given ownership history. 

The 6 cylinder turbocharged unit fires instantly and runs cleanly, black diesel smoke on acceleration but otherwise completely clean.

Clutch and 5 speed gearbox all selects as should with good clutch, which is smooth and has good bite

This truck benefits from air brakes, and both foot and brakes are very responsive 

Fitted with power steering, which is a very welcome addition

Front tyres are new, rears older, but in good order with plenty or tread

there is a box of bits to go with the truck, including mirror arms, TK 1630 Badge, rear lights, cab lights, washer bottle, trim etc

the headlining unsurprisingly needs re trim, but the seats, mats and general trim are I believe testament to the miles, the padding in the seats is still even springy.

The truck has undergone some preservation over the last few years, and the rust has been cut out and repaired in the cab. If you want a show piece, there is some more work to be done to fine tune it, but it is structurally sound. The Chassis is in fantastic original (albeit repainted) condition. I’m not a truck expert but I feel mechanically it is in very good order, and this really is an excellent starting point into big Bedford ownership.
